10/30/2016 update . Still getting a lil frustrated at restoring purchases so often .its much better than it was but still have to occasionally . Also get crashes , freeze screen and the dreaded screen lock where I cant navigate at all and am stuck on whatever page happens to be open..... I believe it has to have something to do with to many automatic prompts and pop ups trying to happen every time I open the app.... I mean the review prompt, every time I re enter the app!? Well I think until that is u see control Ill leave updates to my review just to show how annoying this can be . Coupled with the other issues , can be frustrating ..... but dont let me or the apps glitches stop you from trying this out. It is one of if not the best song /video lesson Ive come across . And I have many online memberships to websites...I use this app more than all sites combined , maybe tabs hd app along with tonebridge app are a close second . But thats a perfect example of my misgivings about many tabs versions for one song. You get multiplied tabs and tab versions for each song with the tab pro and tabshd app .That usually have multiple versions rated hi... well I now understand how the notes are in many places on the neck ... but why would you not just have the tab for the way the original artist did it ..?live the app , still hate the minor issues .
The issues of song not showing across all devices is much better. You may have to restore purchases and close then open a few times ... But the song will show up .
As of last update I dont get all my purchased lessons on my iPhone, even after restoring purchases twice. I only noticed now because Ive been working on a couple lessons on my iPad , but going to an in person lesson with my teacher I open lesson on my phone. Which I couldnt because it wouldnt show up. Frustrating to say the least.... Otherwise I stand by my past glowing review (below)
Im a new (1yr in) (2014-2015)middle aged guitarist . I may have started to late, but this app has been the closest to me learning a song yet. You wont learn any theory and for a beginner this IMO is a good thing. You will learn step by step how to play songs with videos of both hands and an animated fretboard all following along the lesson at the same time. Each section being broken down to a few seconds each so you can learn the song piece by piece . The slo-mo and loop feature is a welcome addition. Even with my short attention span I learn by looping a section in slo mo until I get each part down. Also With my short attention span the other good thing is the library of songs is not only quite varied but it grows constantly . Making an in app purchase for a few dollars a quick way to change lessons to another song . I dont recommend doing that though. Ive learned 15 seconds of a bunch of different songs and not finished one yet, but thats my issue not the apps.i am glad I bought the songs I did but wish I could stick with one song all the way through...again this is my issue not the apps. Theres also tabs and staff music for each song written out. I cant read music yet but anyone can figure out most of how to read tab. So get yourself a printing app for your iPad and print out any of the tabs you want and practice away from your iPad if you want to or if need be .
From my experience I will suggest one thing. Theres gonna be many tabs for one song out there. Pick one you trust and stick with it. Before I started printing the tab from the app Id just look up online the tabs for the song I was learning when away from home etc. well I found out quickly unless the original artist has something to do with the tab that theres many interpretations of any song out there. That confused the hell out of me for awhile. Cant quite explain it still but like I said I just follow the one in the app now and until I understand guitar / music better this is more than enough to fill my learning time.
Even if your an experienced guitarist I think this app will be a good resource for learning a song . If I can learn to sound like a song anyone can and professional guys will fly through any song they want in this fashion. The only draw back, and I think/ assume it a dying issue. Is that since there are so many genres of music theres only so many songs in each genre to choose from.theres two ways this obstacle is conquered. One learn some songs out of your niche. And two, theres new music added all the time.
Bottom line IMO this app is worth a look ...
